About CAGWA

California Age Group Wrestling — growing the sport at the K-8 level, one confident young wrestler at a time.

Our Mission

Give young wrestlers a real chance to succeed — and keep them in the sport.

CAGWA provides a venue for youth wrestlers to compete against others with similar years of experience, in a setting like what they'll experience at the next level. Our goal is to give them an opportunity to succeed, keep them interested in wrestling, and grow the sport in the state of California.

Our objective. Reduce the number of wrestlers who leave the sport after one or two years due to an early lack of success. By matching kids with opponents at their own experience level — rather than throwing beginners against much more experienced wrestlers week after week — we let them build confidence and stay on the mat.

Giving BACK

CAGWA reinvests in the wrestling community — funding clubs, medals, mats, and travel for young athletes. In the 2009-2010 season alone, CAGWA donated approximately $46,000 back to the wrestling community, from mat donations for host clubs to supporting Middle School National Team members and local college programs.
